Deco D’Asie was born from the idea of making decorative objects, furniture, lamps, etc. from Asia within everyone's reach and directly from an importer.
With 55 years of experience, the parent company of Deco D’Asie, HH is specialized in the search for original, unusual and unusual objects.
From India to Thailand, Burma and Indonesia, the second generation of HH owners are passionate about Asian art. "From a young age I was lucky enough to be able to walk in all these countries rich in culture, colors and landscapes breathtaking, meet multiple artisans. Over the years I have become for some like a member of the family having grown up with their children who themselves took over the parents' business."
It has been more than 25 years since Mr. Nitya Sawhney took over the management of HH. "When I started, I was mainly focused on being able to do volume and therefore focus on large series pieces. But over the years, I realized that this was no longer my future or my personal interest. My passion turned more and more towards unique and old pieces. And what a pleasure and satisfaction to know that only one other person would have the joy of being able to welcome this object into her home!" But Nitya had to face the reality of the market, and finding a large enough number of beautiful old objects was becoming difficult to make it a viable business despite everything .
"So I asked myself the question, how to do? Keeping a certain exclusivity in the pieces but still being able to offer them on a larger scale ... & nbsp ;. So I had to start a long search for suppliers, over several years and many trips, who were able to make beautiful reproductions of old objects. All these efforts made me now allow us to offer a collection of objects from different origins, materials and styles. The challenge is to marry these styles together…. To be able to place an old or repro room in a contemporary interior…. ”.
But the most important thing for Nitya is respect for people. "I can't bring myself to do business on people's backs. For me, everyone should be happy with the negotiation. I work with my suppliers as collaborators and I want to keep long term relationships with them. The relationship next to business for me is much more important than the business itself."
But the search for unique pieces remains Nitya's main passion. "I can spend days on end looking for beautiful pieces. For this, word of mouth is very important. This is also why I make a point of working in trust and respect with my suppliers. So it happened to me to find myself in very unusual places sometimes, like on a farm in northern Thailand who farmed pigs and where I had been told that I had seen old teak pig sculptures…. All this by 47C ° with a humidity level of 85% and feet in pig dung! Or in a cellar of a house in North India which had not been visited for years but which was well inhabited by many rats. But the desire to discover unique pieces there was far too great…. I discovered superb bronze water jars there ..."
